ARTE TV PROGRAMME SPONSORSHIP SALES TO BE HANDLED
BY IP NETWORK

The European cultural television channel ARTE and the international sales representation network IP Network (part of the Havas Intermediation group) concluded an agreement mandating IP Network as the exclusive worldwide representative in charge of finding sponsors for the channel. Arte's approximately fifteen weekly programmes were subdivided by type or theme (cinema and fiction, documentaries, music programmes). Advertisers are presently offered three month sponsorships as well as sponsorship of daily weather forecasts.

ARTE, which in France is broadcast on a national terrestrial frequency, is transmitted by cable principally in Germany, Belgium, Austria, Switzerland and Luxembourg. A wide selection of the channel's programmes is also available each Saturday evening on TVE 2, the second public channel in Spain. ARTE can reach a total of over 110 million Europeans, and posts 22 million frequent viewers in Europe - 16 million in France and 4 million in Germany (sources: IPSOS/INRA/ISOPUBLIC/DIMARSO).

In 1996, ARTE's average audience share, as measured by national research institutes, reached 2.6% of French viewers at least 15 years old, 0.6% in Belgium and 0.3% in Germany (sources: Médiamétrie, CIM and GfK Peoplemeter).

ARTE's audience, throughout Europe, includes many viewers with above average socioprofessional profiles. According to an EMS survey, covering seventeen countries in Europe and based on a representative sample of the 20% highest income Europeans, ARTE's weekly penetration in this upscale group totals over 8 million people (20.5% of the target). ARTE is therefore the second leading international channel after Eurosport.

ARTE viewer profiles also show a strong inclination to attend cultural events (theatre, cinema, opera, concerts, exhibitions,...) as well as strong interest in Europe, travel and foreign languages.

Created by la Sept-ARTE in France and the public channels ARD and ZDF in Germany, ARTE benefits from programme exchanges and coproductions with other public channels, such as RTBF in Belgium, SSR in Switzerland, TVE in Spain and TVP in Poland.

IP Network's sales teams are present in major advertising capitals: Paris, London, Frankfurt, Brussels, Amsterdam, Lisbon, Moscow, New York and Tokyo. The company provides two services: foreign representation of national media and sales house for transnational or paneuropean television channels. Other major developments of IP Network's activities regarding paneuropean channels will soon be announced.
